The Hopkinsville Rotary Foundation awarded its tenth grant during the 74th Annual Hopkinsville Rotary Auction to Hopkinsville Fire/EMS Fire Prevention Division! The Hopkinsville Fire Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our community members, especially children, through proactive fire prevention measures. Their fire prevention education program aims to enhance fire safety education by providing an interactive and engaging learning experience with a children’s inflatable smokehouse that will serve as a mobile education tool to simulate real-life fire scenarios in a controlled environment. The inflatable smokehouse will create a hands-on learning experience for children, teaching them essential fire safety practices in a fun and memorable way! The Hopkinsville Rotary Foundation awarded its ninth grant during the 74th Annual Hopkinsville Rotary Auction to Christian County 4-H! The Christian County 4-H program works with all youth in the county from public, private and homeschooled students from ages 9 to 18. There are seven 4-H areas that they base their programs including agriculture, family & consumer sciences, leadership, health, SET, natural resources and communications and expressive arts. The Christian County Extension Office currently has one Blender Bike which is a stationary bike attached to a blender. This fun exercise equipment has been a huge hit and with this grant they will expand their fleet of educational stationary bikes that can not only make smoothies, but will have the capability to generate electricity for charging phones, creating spin art, and even making ice-cream! These bikes will be utilized at their special Farmer’s Market Programs and also taken to the schools, programs with community partners, club meetings and so much more. Each year approximately 700 local ninth grade students participate in Christian County 4-H’s financial program, It’s Your Reality, for both public and private schools. These students are given a job or trade with a salary amount and a family with how many family members they are to care for during this scenario. Community members and local businesses work at different stations such as housing, transportation, childcare, etc. as student works around the room learning how to budget for their fictional family. The Hopkinsville Rotary Foundation awarded its eighth grant during the 74th Annual Hopkinsville Rotary Auction to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hopkinsville-Christian County! They are in the process of extending their Teen Center and building a brand new FabLab! This FabLab will allow teens greater access to technology and learn new skills that can be used in the 21st century workforce. The FabLab will increase the size of the current Teen Center allowing more teens too attend the Boys & Girls Club every day. The Hopkinsville Rotary Foundation awarded it’s seventh grant during the 74th Annual Hopkinsville Rotary Auction to Christian County Special Olympics! CCSO was formed in the late 1950s and currently has 50 participants competing in basketball, track and field, softball and bowling. They are much like a travel team where they compete in these sports year-round.
